This week, developments regarding the Strait of Hormuz and US inflation data were closely monitored. The stalled diplomatic process to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and the continued tension in the region led to a rise in oil prices. Following data releases in the US indicating a slowdown in both CPI and PPI inflation in July, expectations of a Fed interest rate hike at its September meeting weakened. In Türkiye, the current account deficit in June was 4.2 billion USD, below thr expectations, while industrial production fell by 1.4% yoy, and retail sales lost some momentum. In its third Inflation Report of the year, the CBRT raised its inflation forecast for the end of 2026 to 28%. According to the results of the CBRT Survey of Market Participants, year-end inflation expectations rose to 29.43%. Next week, preliminary PMI data for August will be released for major economies, along with budget balance and confidence indices in Türkiye. Developments in the Middle East will continue to be closely monitored.
